Will Teeth Whitening remove all stains?

Teeth whitening procedures can lighten and brighten the discolouration of enamel and dentin (the outer and inner part of a tooth).  However, there are two different types of stains on the outer and inner part of the tooth called intrinsic and extrinsic.

Extrinsic stains are the discolouration of the outer layer of the tooth, which are also called ‘superficial’ stains, meaning that they can be removed from teeth using whitening or bleaching.

Although teeth whitening can whiten or brighten dentin (the inner tooth) in some cases, because intrinsic stains are deep within the tooth’s structure, they cannot be easily removed. Your dentist should be able to evaluate your case and the best course of action for the results that you are looking for.


Will teeth whitening cause damage to my teeth?

The Brighton Implant Clinic team are fully trained and experienced. Professional teeth whitening is not harmful to teeth. Patients may experience tooth sensitivity in the first few days following whitening, however, this should subside.


How long does professional teeth whitening last?

Professional teeth whitening should last 1 to 2 years depending on lifestyle and dental care. Teeth whitening is not a preventative measure against tooth staining, therefore drinking tea, red wine or smoking, are all things that can stain teeth over time.
